Ubuntu... MEPIS... gOS... Yer mama's this AIN'T!!

I'm in need of a(n older) PCI video card - I have a 'vintage' machine that can't make up its mind whether it needs an add-on video card or not.  (Long story...)  Not important how good, just working PCI - and DEFINITELY *NOT* PCI-E, for sure!  <^8#

And if I could lay hands on another, mid-level accelerated NVidia'ish (could also be ATI, etc.), I could possibly improve the performance of a 'soon-to-be-vintage' (REAL soon, y'know?!  <^8#) Dell Dimension 2400, which ONLY has PCI slots, so AGP's no alternative, sadly.  Works fine, otherwise, but I'd been testing out MS-Vista on my home stuff, mostly for sh!ts & giggles, and this one choked up BIG-time, IIRC.

If you've got anything just lying around...  Thanks.

If you had asked me a few months back, I might've been able to help you out. I had a Voodoo2 card and a Matrox Mystique card that went to the hazardous waste depot. I might still have something lying around. I'll take a look this weekend in my closets.

Bummer!  I think that's GOT to be my biggest pet peeve - 'vintage' but perfectly functional older systems that get carted off to the 'recycling depot' (read: dumpster!  You know it's true!) when they could be recycled and returned to service.  They may not be the most stellar performers, but it beats nothing at all - and who knows better than we do how much more efficient a Linux solution is over an outdated M$ installation...!  <^8#

Did you try phoning any of the computer repair shops? Some sell off old stuff for a few bucks.

You can also still buy them online:

I'm not suggesting that route necessarily. If you call a local computer store, my vote is for PC Paramedics Smiley, you can probably still order one through them for comparable prices without the shipping cost.

Benchmarks Computers puts out old hard drives, network cards etc, and I assume video cards at the front of the store that they want to get rid of. I generally browse them any time I go in.
